Level Design
I directed the whole level pipeline of the project, from the design to the creation and test. I wanted to focus on immersion and the use of the perspective to make the world more lively, adding what the original Transformice lacked.
The game's core gameplay being fights, the most important part were the arenas. Taking into account the restrictive gameplay and state of the prototype, I wanted to offer different ambience and feelings through the arenas' shapes, sizes and assets. The goal was to tone down the repetitive aspect of the game.
My tasks included :
- Establishing rules and guidelines for levels, dungeon layouts and arena size regarding to gameplay restrictions.
- - Level design : sketched and in-game layout, collision, arena design.
- Level building : construction based on the blocking, lighting.
- - Close exchanges with artists to design the different biomes regarding level design and narrative restrictions, to precise specific needs in assets.
- Documentation.
The game was still at a prototype state. A total of 3 complete functioning dungeons and a village were made, as well as several small showcase levels, prototype layouts and video footage scenes.
